Zionism and the Black Church

Zionism and the Black Church

The roots of biblical truth and Christian worship run deep in the Black American community — even in this modern age. “Zionism & the Black Church: Why Standing With Israel Will Be a Defining Issue for Christians of Color in the 21st Century” is a look at the Black connection to Israel, and the shared experiences of African-American and Jewish people. It is a discussion of biblical Zionism, how it has been viewed in the Black Church, and what challenges it will face in the coming years.

Soon after the establishment of the modern Jewish State in 1948, Israel’s enemies began a campaign of delegitimization that has continued to this day. There is no tactic more frequently used in that campaign than allegations of racism or ethnic hatred. Israel’s detractors have fraudulently used the legacy of indigenous or historically oppressed peoples to question her right to exist. What was a fringe anti-Zionist movement in the 1960s is now institutionalized in many of our college campuses and universities. Our young people are being told lies, half-truths, and blatant distortions about the nation of Israel and the Jewish people. The historical spiritual effects of this propaganda have been harmful to our community, and threatens to do even more damage going forward. The Black Church must not be silent.

“Zionism” will explore:

  • The African Historic Tie to Israel

  • The Israelite Diaspora

  • Biblical-Christian Zionism

  • Dr. Martin Luther King’s Pro-Israel Legacy

  • Anti-Zionism/Christian Palestinianism

  • The myth of Black-Arab Solidarity in the fight against Israel, and more

“Zionism” is for pastors, church goers, high school, and college students. It is a new beginning of a centuries old conversation. There is a move of God within the Body of Christ that is reaffirming His love for His people. As God gathers the Jewish people from Europe, Asia, Africa, the Americas and the islands of the sea, He is reminding the Church that He is a covenant-keeping God. He will bless those who bless Israel. He will defend those who stand with Israel. At a time when Israel’s enemies are increasing, these spiritual truths are more relevant than ever.

Psalm 122

1 I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the Lord!” 2 Our feet have been standing within your gates, O Jerusalem! 3 Jerusalem—built as a city that is bound firmly together, 4 to which the tribes go up, the tribes of the Lord, as was decreed for[a] Israel, to give thanks to the name of the Lord. 5 There thrones for judgment were set, the thrones of the house of David. 6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem! “May they be secure who love you! 7 Peace be within your walls and security within your towers!” 8 For my brothers and companions' sake I will say, “Peace be within you!” 9 For the sake of the house of the Lord our God, I will seek your good.
